On Friday I talked about the Saskatoon Fashion & Design Festival presented by ESYXE. Each Friday I will be talking about the various designers that will be featured, but I also wanted to take some time to talk about some of the companies sponsoring the festival! The first one that I will be introducing you to is Two Fifty Two Boutique!
Two Fifty Two Boutique opened in August of 2014 and is owned and operated by the father-daughter duo, Barry and Mackenzie Firby in the University Heights neighbourhood.
While travelling around the world, Mackenzie found some amazing clothing and purses that caused envy among her friends and family. It was at this time that she realized just what Saskatoon was missing, a local boutique that could offer some great brands and styles.
The Two Fifty Two name comes from Mackenzie’s biggest fashion icon, her mother, Chris. Her mother, who has unfortunately passed away, was born on 2/25/52, which then became Two Fifty Two. I love that this is where the name came from, using the birth date as inspiration really focuses on her mother’s life and honours her in a great way.
Two Fifty Two Boutique
While I had been hearing about Two Fifty Two for awhile on social media, through events, and even on the news, I hadn’t actually been into the boutique before. Ian and I decided to visit this weekend so I could share my experience with you!
We were very quickly greeted upon entry, and I was instantly impressed by the setup. I’m so used to walking in a store and see racks upon racks of items, sometimes making it hard to manoeuvre your way through, or signs plastered everywhere letting you know the prices or sales. This is definitely not the case here, I would describe it as simplistic and classy. Everything is beautifully organized, there is no need to dig through racks looking for that hidden gem because it will be right out in the open for you.
The decor is few and far between, but yet it adds just the right amount of glam to the boutique. A lot of decoration isn’t needed though because It’s almost as though the accessories are decor pieces in themselves. Each item is perfectly on display, almost looking as though they belong in a magazine spread.
Jeanette and Katie were the two ladies working when we came in, and they were exactly what I would expect from a boutique like this. They were friendly and inviting to us, and to another customer that came in while we were there (we came at a quiet time). They both looked trendy and like someone I would trust to help me with any important fashion decision.
For the most part, all of the clothing items are organized by brands. If you know, or care, about brands, chances are you know who you like, and who works the best for your body type. Having the clothes organized by brand makes it so easy to go straight to your favourite. On the flip side, perhaps you are just wanting to buy a dress and you aren’t sure which designer you want to wear. The set up still makes it easy to find exactly what you are looking for. The simplistic look of the racks makes it simple to flip through the items and find that perfect piece.
There is everything from jeans to dresses, colours to neutrals, and casual to fancy. Whatever your taste may be, I promise you will find something you love. I saw many pieces that I would have loved to take home with me!
There are a couple of change rooms to try on the items that you find, as well as a nice little seating area. Whether it’s your friends that you are shopping with, or your patient significant other, there is plenty of room to strut your stuff.
Once you have your outfit chosen, you will definitely need some accessories to go along with it. Whether you are looking for shoes, purses, or jewellery, you will find what you need. Just like the clothing, all of the accessories are set out in an orderly fashion. As I mentioned above, the accessories all look like they could be part of the decor.
Since this is a boutique, only a few pieces of each item are brought into the store. If you fall in love with something while you are shopping, make sure you snatch it up! I know that feeling of missing out on an item because of having second thoughts. I will never forget that old school Mighty Ducks jersey that I saw at Value Village once. I put it down and watched someone pick it up a few minutes later. I have always regretted not making the purchase, and I have never found another one. A bonus to this feature though, you can get some really unique items! I often struggled with wanting to shop at stores within Saskatoon, but not wanting to wear the same clothes that everyone else has.
I did make two purchases, but you don’t get to see them just yet! I will be revealing that when I show you what I wear to the Saskatoon Fashion & Design Festival! How cute and fancy is this packaging?
I would love to tell you about all of the brands that Two Fifty Two carries, but I don’t know if you would be willing to stick with me that long! Instead, I’m just going to include this list (taken from the website) and you can visit the website here to learn more about these designers.
Services & Events
Not only can you go to Two Fifty Two for boutique purchases like we did, they offer a variety of other services and events as well! For each item that you purchase, you get one, free, basic alteration, such as shortening the hem on an item. They also offer other alterations, such as taking an item in, at the customer’s expense. This is such a key service for me. As a short girl, I often struggle finding items, particularly pants, that are the right length. The fact that I can buy them here and not have to worry about the length, is a huge bonus. Life is just happier when I don’t have to hem!
They also offer complimentary personal shopping. Any of their stylists can help you out by finding the perfect outfit for you, for any occasion. All you have to do is call the boutique and set up an appointment. It’s very simple and best of all, free! This is perfect for those of you who aren’t quite sure what works, or maybe you’re just too busy to put a lot of thought into an outfit. Whatever the case may be, Two Fifty Two has you covered.
Those are the two services they offer, but what about the events? Two Fifty Two offers the option of private shopping parties! They have hosted clothing clubs, book clubs, and even birthday parties! What a unique experience to have, and what girl wouldn’t want to celebrate their birthday in a clothing boutique? Sounds like a dream come true to me!
They also occasionally hold trendsetter events, which are their Premier nights! These happen at various times throughout the year and highlight their newest collections, seasonal items and some exclusive opportunities (how intriguing does that sound?!). All you have to do is sign up on their email list for more information on when these events are happening.
If you live in Saskatoon, I definitely recommend that you check out Two Fifty Two Boutique. I guarantee that you will have a great shopping experience, and find something that you love, regardless of what your budget may be. You’re also supporting a local company which we all need to start doing more of. Don’t forget to sign up for their email list if you want updates on upcoming events, or you can follow them on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram for updates on sales or new items they may have in stock!
