Rosario Dawson Quarterly Box #18902 2014

Quarterly features celebrity curated boxes sent on a, you guessed it, quarterly basis. Prices range from $50-$100 with additional international shipping charges, and they don’t charge until they are ready to ship. Curators range from actors, musicians, bloggers and internet personalities. There are a tons of interesting boxes so I definitely recommend taking a look!

Rosario Dawson is most commonly known as an actress in films such as Clerks II, Seven Pounds, The Rundown, Sin City, or my personal two favorite, Rent and Josie & The Pussycats. She also has a film currently in theaters, along with Chris Rock, called Top Five.

Rosario also helped to create a four issue comic book miniseries entitled “Occult Crimes Taskforce” and has a new Netflix series, Daredevil, coming out. Among all of that work, she also helped to co-found Studio One Eighty Nine. Taken from the website:

“STUDIO ONE EIGHTY NINE is a social enterprise created by Rosario Dawson and Abrima Erwiah that consist of creatives that seeks to provide a platform to help promote and curate African and African-inspired content through an ecommerce shopping site, a supporting agency and an artisan produced fashion collection, called FASHION RISING COLLECTION, launched in support of V-Day’s One Billion Rising. We focus on creating opportunities for empowerment, education and employment of artisans and creatives.
Together we represent countries all over Africa and its Diaspora. Created by Rosario Dawson and Abrima Erwiah, the mission of Studio One Eighty Nine and the idea for Fashion Rising, took shape following a trip with V-Day in February, 2011, through Kenya, Burundi and Rwanda to Bukavu in the Democratic Republic of Congo for the opening of the City of Joy.”

This box was really big and I love how full it looked upon opening it. I immediately saw items and colors that I was happy with. I had looked at spoilers before (I have no self control) so I knew somewhat what to expect.

These papers are thoughts from Rosario on the box. She says “31 days of December to close out our year, 31 gifts to enjoy while we reflect on it and prepare for a new one”. I didn’t receive this in December, but I still really like this. It also states that this box contains over $300 in products!

I also need to mention the “Gold Ticket” raffle that they held. One winner was going to win a ticket to the “Top Five” premier in New York, which included flights, hotel and premiere tickets. Since the box was shipped late they ended up just contacting the winner, which was me. Unfortunately flights were only for US and so being in Canada, I had to miss out. The person that contacted me was amazing and really tried to do what she could to get me there, it just didn’t work out because of the flights. I’ve promised myself now that one day I’m going to have an amazing experience like that, and I’m also going to make it to New York, hopefully this year.

Stuffed Peppers recipe from the kitchen of Isabel Celeste
Studio 189 bookmark
Black & White magnet
Rorschach Test

I don’t like peppers so probably won’t use the recipe at all but I could see if being really great for anyone who does. The bookmark and magnet will definitely get used. I have a magnet collection so it will go on the fridge with them, and I’m wanting to start reading more this year.

I love this Rorschach test. Rosario made it herself and wants to know what people see in it. Personally I see a creature with it’s hands on it’s hips. On the back of the card are tons of quotes like “I don’t know karate but I know crazy and I’m not afraid to use it”, “being crazy keeps me from going insane” and “did you just call me crazy? I should get down off this unicorn and slap you”. There are a lot of great quotes about being crazy, and being yourself. She also includes a PS: “Sometimes I pretend to be normal but I get bored so I go back to being me.” I love this because I can admit I’m not the most sane person out there and I’ve also been told by many that I’m a bit “different”. I’ve always taken that as a compliment but sometimes it’s a nice reminder that it’s okay to be that way.

Studio 189 Sunglass bag–I love this color and pattern. I will never complain about receiving something blue. I typically use a hard case for my sunglasses because I throw them in my purse. This can have so many uses though, I might even store some hard candies in it and throw it into my purse. In fact, I’m pretty sure that’s what I will end up doing.

The Honest Co. Hand Soap
The Honest Co. Fruit & Veggie wash

Honest Co. is a company founded by Jessica Alba and I have received one or two products in the past. The handsoap will definitely be used once my current one is used up. I’m really intrigued by the fruit and veggie wash, I’ve actually never heard of this before. It’s said to safely and effectively remove unwanted toxic pesticides and chemical residues, pathogens, waxes, dirt etc. It leaves no odor or taste behind and is significantly more effective than cleaning with water. It also inhibits browning and helps food last up to 200% longer. It does state though that it’s not good to use on mushrooms because of them being porous. I eat a lot of mushrooms so that is very good to know. I’m definitely going to give this a try!

Bobble Sport Bottle–This bottle filters as you drink and you must replace the filter ever 2 months, or 150 liters. It’s also dishwasher safe and BPA free. I’m a wateroholic, I can admit it. I drink about 200 ounces of water a day and I will never complain about receiving another water bottle. Plus it’s pink.

Coach Leather Wristlet–This is really nice with two separate pouch areas. There was a card inside with some care instructions and it said that this was meant for small electronic devices. I have a Note 2 so there is no way that will be fitting in this! I have a bit of a bigger wallet so I think this will be good to put any cash/card in when I use one of my smaller purses, or even just on it’s own when I don’t want to carry a full purse around. I’ve never been huge into brand names but I must say, between this and the Kate Spade purse that I was gifted, I’m feeling mighty fancy!

Wooden spoon–This doesn’t have any special markings or brand on it, so I would say this is just a basic wooden spoon. It feels like good quality and my husband commented that it looked like it was hand shaped because of the deviation in the wood and the texture. I’ll take his word for it. I’m happy to receive this because while I already have one, this will definitely get used.

This is an image from Top Five, I think it’s a great photo and it’s neat that she included it. I’m not too sure what I’m going to do with it though!

Kostlichkeiten Premium Cookies–This is a full sized box of German cookies. I’m super impressed that she included such a big box, and while I haven’t tried all of these yet, the ones that I have are really good. It’s a good thing I’m going good on my DietBet and I can afford to allow myself a little indulgence.

Tote bag–This is a huge tote bag, and I believe it is made by Studio 189, and I think exclusively for this box. The numbers on it represent the days in December, just like the advent calendar. It’s a beautiful color and a really good size! You may also notice the bag looks a bit lumpy, there was all sorts of “stocking stuffers” inside!

Pro BCAA Dietary Supplement–You mix one packet in cold water and consume before or after exercise.
Chocolate Quarter
VooDoo Doll
Bouncy Ball
Jelly Beans
Rubber Coal
Blowfish For Hangovers

All sorts of fun stocking stuffer items. I already ate the chocolate quarter and it was good. I’ve grown up eating chocolate loonies and toonies so I knew it would just be your basic chocolate coin. I will also admit that I had a bit too fun when I saw the lip and mustache noicemakers, even earning an eye roll from my husband. These would have been fun to have at New Years, they make a swirling/whirring sound, if that makes any sense. I’m intrigued by the dietary supplement and will definitely be giving it a try.

Blowfish for Hangovers is a pain releiver and alertness aid. It contains Aspirin and caffeine. You just dissolve two of the tablets into water, and drink. I won’t be needing this as I don’t get hangovers, and I’m only drinking water right now (for health & fitness reasons NOT for any kind of pregnancy reason FYI), but I know that I will have someone to gift this to.

Now, I want to talk about the jelly beans. I was like, hey neat, red and green jelly beans! I was happy enough with that because it goes with the Christmas/Advent theme but then there was a web address on the back, and it took me to the video below. I watched it and it sure made me think, life put into perspective through jelly beans! That doesn’t happen every day! For me, this year is about experiencing. If you’ve looked at my 2015 Bucket List post you will know all the big plans I have. Those are what I want to do with my remaining jelly beans from this year.

Occult Crimes Taskforce Cards
Studio 189 Coasters
Juggling Balls

The deck of cards is Occult Crimes Taskforce, which is the comic series that Rosario helped write. I’m not a frequent card player, but you never know when you might need a deck. I love these coasters. I just realized that they are upside down in the photo, but they say “S189” on them. I love the colors and trippy pattern on them. We already have coasters but eventually we will have a house, which means more than one room that needs coasters. These are being saved for that day. I used to try to teach myself to juggle but it was hard because I didn’t have an actual set of matching balls, which made it difficult for me. I’m strangely excited to have a matching set of three, and might just try to get my coordination together enough to juggle!

Honest Co Healing Balm
Walnut Tree Ornaments

Well, the ornaments didn’t see the tree this year, but I snuck them in with my other ornaments before they got put into our storage room. These are really cute. I don’t have a huge amount of ornaments so I definitely welcome more! The healing balm is for dry, irritated, or sensitive skin. I have horribly dry skin right now (mainly my hands and lips) so I welcome this product. I’m excited to see how well it works, and hopefully I’ll have some left in the summer when I get my yearly sunburn.

Under Armour headband–An Under Armour product was one of the spoilers released and I was curious to see what it was. As I started seeing spoilers, all I saw was hair ties. While I was initially excited by the spoiler, I was disappointed to see hair ties. I already have lots of those, and since I recently chopped most of my hair off, they aren’t of much use to me. I did see a comment on a blog where someone said they got a headband. I was SO hoping that I would be one of the few lucky ones to receive the headband, but wasn’t expecting to. I am so happy that I did! I love it and it’s a welcome addition to my fitness accessories.

Daredevil Netflix poster–This is the Netflix series that Rosario Dawson has a role in. I’m really hoping it will also be on Canadian Netflix. A second spoiler we had received was a Disney item. I was expecting something princess related (which I would have been rather excited about) but I didn’t expect something related to Marvel. It’s still weird to me that they are now Disney. It’s a neat picture and might end up on our wall. I’m always a fan of black/white/red coloring on posters.

Rent Poster–This poster has markings all over about important dates throughout the year. Some are relating to Rent, others are just important days or events that occur during the year. This is such a neat item and it’s designed beautifully. I do plan on getting a frame for this at some point and getting it on the wall. It will go great with our future house!

andrea bag

This is Rosario’s second Quarterly box and I was hesitant to sign up. She is an actress that I have a lot of respect for because of all that she does, but with a $50 box charge, $20 shipping, and the currently sucky exchange rate, it’s quite the monetary investment. The deciding factor was definitely when I found out that there was going to be 31 items included in her box as she wanted to make it an advent theme. This box was originally supposed to ship at the end of November, but for some reason it was quite delayed and didn’t ship until just before Christmas so I only just received it now. This slightly took away from the advent and Christmas theme, but I’m never going to complain about getting so many items. Some of the items seemed like fillers, but what do you expect? I really enjoyed opening the box and there were some great items. It was a great variety of useful, inspiring, meaningful and personal gifts. I feel like a lot of thought went into curating this box.

You can still sign up for her third box, it says it will be shipping in January but I was told it will actually be in February. I’m excited to see what she does for her next box!

If you liked the items in this box make sure you keep an eye on the “Best of Quarterly” page. This is where they post boxes if there end up being any left over, I have heard that this box should be making an appearance at some point!
