Put a Bow On It is another Canadian lifestyle subscription box that recently came onto my radar thanks to Instagram. For $60 a month you will receive a variety of products from beauty, fashion, home decor etc. Price includes shipping and GST. Each month the box will come wrapped as a gift and follow a particular theme. At this time they only ship to Canada.
I’ve got to say, I have never been more impressed with a “first look”. First you have a box that’s wrapped in nice branded paper. And then when you’ve removed that, you have a beautifully wrapped present. Seriously, how gorgeous is this presentation?! When you remove that layer you have a branded box. Seriously, this whole initial presentation is just amazing.
First look had me pretty happy, I didn’t feel any initial disappointment and I was curious to dig in and see more. The theme this month was “Mum’s The Word”, which makes sense given that May is Mother’s Day.
I was a bit unsure about signing up for this box based on the price. It’s more than I usually spend but I scoped out some reviews first and was pretty confident I’d get a good value. I canceled soon after ordering just so I didn’t have to worry about auto renewal. I was impressed to see a card acknowledging that I had canceled it and a discount code on the back of that card if I decide to sign up again.
Zippered Clutch–There were a few color options with this clutch and I got grey. I’ll be honest, I don’t think I’ll use this. It’s a bit of a spongy material and I’m finding the holes to be a bit strange. It doesn’t help that I’m not much of a clutch girl to begin with. I mean really, you expect me to hold my bag the entire time? I’d much rather just sling the strap over my shoulder! I’m also not big on tassels.
Candle–The scent of this one is “Champagne Rose”, so I can’t say I’m too surprised that I don’t love it. I don’t like champagne or roses so the combination of the two wouldn’t be a good one for me. It is a pretty color though and I’m sure it will make a nice gift for someone!
Honey by Marc Jacobs–I am not a scent person, especially if it’s even remotely perfume-y. I’m impressed to see this brand in a subscription box though and how amazingly cute is this bottle?! I almost wanted to keep it just for that, but I decided this would be great to give to my mom for Mother’s Day.
Book–“In What My Mother Gave Me, women look at the relationships between mothers and daughters through a new lens: a daughter’s story of a gift from her mother that has touched her to the bone and served as a model, a metaphor, or a touchstone in her own life. The contributors of these thirty-one original pieces include Pulitzer Prize winners, perennial bestselling novelists, and celebrated broadcast journalists.” This book is definitely a good addition along with the Mother’s Day theme. It seemed like it could be an interesting book, but I honestly couldn’t tell you the last time I read a book. I’ve been working my way through The Three Theban Plays by Sophocles for about 4 years now and I still have a ways to go. This is another item that ended up in my Mother’s Day present for my mom.
La Belle Petale–They sent lotion, body wash and soap. The packaging is really pretty, especially the wrapping on the soap. In case you hadn’t already gathered this, I’m just not much of a flower scented person. This is all lavender scented and I’m just not caring for it. It’s just too strong. I also would have liked to see shampoo, conditioner and soap rather than this combination.
Notebook & pen–Really like both of these items! The notebook is lined and soft covered. It’ll be good for throwing into my bigger purse in case I’m out and need to make a note of something somewhere. I love the bright pink of the pen and it writes really nicely. I was hoping for pink ink, but it’s black. That makes it more practical though, so I guess I’m okay with that!
I have mixed thoughts right now and I don’t think this was the best month for me to start with. Even though I didn’t love the items, I do highly recommend this box. The presentation of this box is top notch. It’s definitely the best I have ever seen. I mean, you get an actual wrapped gift! I feel as though every item went along with the theme perfectly. The fact that I gave my mom a couple of items from this box as part of her Mother’s Day gift says a lot, and she was quite happy with them! It was fun to see a brand like Marc Jacobs in here as well. It was also a great assortment of items.
I’m going to give this box another month. The theme for June is “Fun in the Sun” and that sounds like it’s way more up my alley. Past reviews I’ve seen of the box also had more items that were geared towards my tastes.
