Ipsy June 2015

Ipsy (referral link) is a monthly beauty subscription. Each month subscribers receive a Glam Bag that has a combination of 4-5 deluxe samples and full size products. The cost is $10 a month with $4.95 shipping to Canada.

They currently have a wait list but there are different ways to ‘skip’ it. If you chose to wait it can take anywhere from 1-3 months (from what I hear). They also sometimes have a ‘skip the wait list’ day.

Usually around the 12th of the month you have the option of viewing your “Glam Room” which shows the items that you will be receiving. There are usually about 20 different items and the ones you receive are determined by a survey you fill out when you sign up. You can also collect ipsy points by doing reviews, which you can later redeem for bonus items.

The Bag

I’m not the hugest fan of this bag. It’s neat how it has “Ipsy” written on it, but it’s a weird texture. It’s oddly squishy on the back. I do like how they used a brighter zipper because it helps make the black not as bland.

So, now for an issue that I noticed immediately upon opening the bag. Ipsy always contains five items. Well, my bag only had four. I emailed them as soon as I noticed that and actually had a response within five minutes! They are sending out the missing item, and I’m quite happy with how quick the issue was resolved. I’ll still include an explanation of the item, but there just won’t be a picture or review of it.

The Goods

J.Cat Beauty Liptitude Hydrating Lip Stain–This is a highly pigmented, hydrating, semi-matte lip stain. It contains Vitamin E and plants extract and will last 24/7. There were two color options, but I can’t figure out which mine is. There is no color on the bottle, and they both look similar online. This is super intense. I’m not sure how often I will wear it because of how bright it is. It seems to also go on pretty thick so I found it hard to make it look like it wasn’t caked on.

BeFine Cucumber Facial Mask–This cooling mask revitalizes, repairs and rejuvenates. It removes dead skin cells, and the Pomegranate Extract, which is loaded with antioxidants and helps to repair the skin. Watermelon Extract also reduces the break down of DNA in skin cells and keeps them hydrated. I really like this mask. I didn’t need to use too much for coverage so I think this sample will last awhile. I really like that this mask dries while on. It also came off easily which is a nice bonus. My face felt soft, nourished and fresh afterwards.

Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer–This contains a lightweight blend of Vitamin A & E, grape seed extract and green tea. This is a best-selling, oil-free primer that can reduce the appearance of fine lines and pores. The primer defuses the light hitting your skin to blur out any imperfection. It also helps your makeup to last all day long. I’ve used this product before and never really noticed it making a huge difference. I do like that it’s oil free though and doesn’t make my face feel greasy.

Glamierre Flat Top Concealer Brush–This is a duo-fiber synthetic brush. It applies concealer and is great for contouring and blending makeup. Meh. I’ve gotten a lot of brushes lately, and I already have a lot from other times. I think brushes are going on my list along with mascara and fragrances.

tre’StiQue Mini Shadow Crayon–This is a 12 hour eye shadow that you can customize the color from subtle to vibrant. It’s blendable with a crease free, smooth finish. You can use it as a highlighter on your upper lip, or contour in your eye crease. You can layer over a lighter shade for a softer look, or layered under a darker shade for a more dramatic look. This is the item that I didn’t receive and I’m curious to see which of the four color options I will receive!

Final Thoughts

I’m really impressed with the quick customer service, and I’m curious to see how long it takes for me to get the item. That aside, definitely not overly impressed with this bag. They have been doing really well lately, but this just wasn’t exciting. The mask will definitely be used up, so I’m happy with that. The brush is annoying though, and the primer isn’t hugely exciting. I’ll use it though, so I guess that counts for something! I don’t know if I’ll use the lip stain just because of how it goes on.  I’m hoping that I get a good color of the shadow crayon!
