Ipsy July 2015

Ipsy (referral link) is a monthly beauty subscription. Each month subscribers receive a Glam Bag that has a combination of 4-5 deluxe samples and full size products. The cost is $10 a month with $4.95 shipping to Canada.

They currently have a wait list but there are different ways to ‘skip’ it. If you chose to wait it can take anywhere from 1-3 months (from what I hear). They also sometimes have a ‘skip the wait list’ day.

Usually around the 12th of the month you have the option of viewing your “Glam Room” which shows the items that you will be receiving. There are usually about 20 different items and the ones you receive are determined by a survey you fill out when you sign up. You can also collect ipsy points by doing reviews, which you can later redeem for bonus items.

Love the pattern on this months bag! The vibrant colors are great, and the chevron pattern is really cute. This feels like the perfect summer bag!

The Goods

Eau Thermale Avene Cleanance Gel Soapless Cleanser–This eliminates impurities and excess sebum without stripping the skin at all. It’s triple action formula, which includes patented Glyceryl Laurate, sebum and oil production are inhibited and any blemishes caused by bacteria are diminished, which leaves nothing but healthy looking skin. I’ve never heard of sebum before, but I do at times have oily skin. I actually think this works fairly well. I’ve been using it in the mornings, and I feel like my face is less oily. That’s saying something considering how hot and humid it’s been lately!

OFRA Cosmetics Bliss Eyeshadow–This shimmery powder can be used as an eye shadow or as highlighting powder on your cheek bones, or bridge of your nose. Not a bad color, pretty basic. I’m sure I’ll get use out of it, just wish it was in an actual case or something rather than just some plastic.

Be A Bombshell Lip Balm–The hydrating formula leaves your lips smooth and adds a hint of color. I’ll never complain about receiving a lip balm, I’m always using them, especially in the summer. It’s also been super dry here this year so I’ve been using it like crazy!

tarte deluxe Amazonian clay waterproof bronzer–This is tarte’s best-selling, multi-tasking bronzer. It’s formulated to blend and build your perfect level of uniform bronze. The waterproof formula adds warmth and dimension across all different skin tons. The Amazonian clay helps improve skin clarity, texture and tone for an overall lit from within complexion. Mineral pigments soothe and soften skin, vitamin E acts as an emollient and antioxidant. I don’t really feel here nor there with this, and haven’t had a chance to use it yet.

Bare Republic Naturals SPF 30 Tinted Mineral Face Sunscreen Lotion–This is a 100% natural, chemical-free active SPF Face Sunscreen. It has a lightweight formula, non-whitening, non-greasy and lightly tinted application, it’s perfect with or without makeup. My main face lotion has SPF in it, but it’s nice to have a product that is just sunscreen, not lotion with sunscreen. I often use other sunscreen on my face if I know I’m going to be outside for a long time, but this will be a great alternative. The tint isn’t too noticeable on my skin, so that’s good.

Final Thoughts

This was a decent enough month for Ipsy. The cleanser gel, lip balm and sunscreen are two items that I’ll be using right away. I love that the tarte bronzer was full size, but like I said in my Birchbox review, I don’t generally use the stuff. The eyeshadow may or may not get used, though I do like that it’s such a big size.

Before receiving this bag, I made the decision to cancel Ipsy. I’ve been subscribing for over a year now and I’m kind of overrun on products. I can see myself subscribing again, but I’ve decided to take that money and put it towards trying out a different variety of boxes! Sometimes, it’s just time for change!
