CallaLife Box is a Canadian subscription box. For $38 a month, plus $10 shipping, you will receive a box containing 5-8 items, most of which will be sourced from local Canadian artisans. Items range from health, beauty, well-being and lifestyle. Boxes ship between the 9th and 11th each month.
A neat fact about CallaLife Box is that a portion of each box sold gets donated to a charitable cause! How awesome is that? This quarter they are donating a portion to “I Can For Kids“. This is a Calgary based organization that seems to have been inspired/started by a 12 year old. There are a ton of school nutrition programs that help feed children during the school year, but what happens during the summer? This charity aims to end summer childhood hunger by raising money to go towards food packs. Just $5 can feed a child for a day.
When I opened last box I had instantly felt like it was very summery, this box I didn’t really have initial thoughts about. I prefer the packing peanuts over the annoying crinkle paper that is often included. CallaLife doesn’t do any special packaging and instead puts that money towards products. There also isn’t a product card, but an email is sent out to detail anything that you need to know!
Wicks Candle & Craft Co Vancouver Rain Soy Candle–This company makes long burning eco friendly soy candles. They are made entirely out of recyclable materials, are Vegan and biodegradable. They are made in Vancouver and 10% of all profits are donated. Vancouver is known for being rainy and this candle channels that with a blend of peony and water lily. I like the presentation of the jar and the tag but I don’t like the smell as much. I’ve mentioned before that I’m really not a candle person and really just like fruity scents.
Hemp Crate Toasted Hemp Seeds–You can either eat these straight as a snack or add them into your smoothie, yogurt, salad or baking. They are high in fibre and are a good source of calcium. I do like that this is a big bag, it’s nice to see a company mix it up from the regular little bags of hemp seeds that show up in every box. I still haven’t used any of those so I think this will likely end up sitting around for a little while too. According on the date they are freshest until October, which doesn’t give me a whole lot of time!
A Little Soapy Business Natural Deodorant–This deodorant is all natural and formulated for sensitive skin. You only need 2-3 sprays under each arm. It’s noted on their Etsy store that it’s normal for natural deodorants to “fail” for the first few weeks when making the switch due to the body detoxifying. I’m not totally sure how I feel about this. I’ve never really been too concerned with using natural products, and the idea of having it fail during the first few weeks is a bit frightening. I might save this one until there is cooler weather outside and I’m wearing sweaters, rather than when it’s hot out and I’m in sleeveless tops! I feel like that’s my safest bet.
A Little Soapy Business Face Scrubbies–These are 100% cotton reusable and long lasting face scrubbies. You can rinse them by hand and just air dry them. I don’t usually use a scrubby or face cloth or anything, I just suds up with my hands and then rinse off by splashing water. I don’t generally wear make up so I find that to be sufficient in getting my face clean. I also don’t really care for how small these are, I feel like if I was using something like this I would want it bigger. If someone uses cotton swabs though that they throw out after each use I can see this being a good alternative for them.
Red Lemon Heavenly Bloomers Roll-on Perfume–This natural roll-on perfume is scented with vanilla, rose, ylang ylang, and a touch of sandalwood. This is packaged up so I didn’t actually smell it, it’s likely not my kind of scent (haven’t found a perfume that is) so I’m going to leave the plastic on it.
Red Lomon Grapefruit Mint Tinted Lip Balm–This is just lightly tinted with a pink shimmer. I like the mint and grapefruit combination and will definitely use this. I will never complain about receiving a lip balm, I’m glad that it isn’t overly tinted though!
Bonus: My Yoga Works–This discount code gets you two months of free yoga online. There were three codes included so you can save one for yourself and give the others to two friends. I’ve tried to get into yoga, and I want to like it because of the benefits, but it’s just too slow paced for me. I’m all for taking time to be zen and what not, but yoga is just not really for me. Let me know if you’re interested in checking it out though and I’d be happy to share one of my three codes with you!
A second bonus is this bar of soap from A Little Soapy Business, same company as two other products we received. This was a lavender scent. I don’t actually use bar soap or lavender scented items so unfortunately I won’t be using this. I like that it includes a coupon to receive a full size bar if you make a purchase though!
I should first start by saying that I didn’t mean to subscribe this month. I had skipped the previous month, but had forgotten to skip/cancel it again for this month. With holidays/trips I was cutting back on some expenses so this was a bit of an unexpected one. I was hoping I was going to love the box this month, but I just didn’t. Out of all these item I’m guaranteed to use the lip balm and I might use the deodorant. I’ll pretend that I’m going to use the hemp hearts, but they will sit on a shelf until I finally admit that I probably won’t.
I do need to add that I think this was a well curated box. The items were all true to what CallaLife represents, everything is natural and made in Canada. There is a great selection of items covering a variety of different areas from fitness to health food to beauty products and home goods. If you like all of the items the value was definitely there. Unfortunately I’m starting to think that maybe this box just isn’t for me like I keep wanting it to be. The other two months I received were a bit more geared towards what I like and I did quite like the June one, but I just don’t know if that’s enough for me to continue subscribing. Definitely not on a regular basis. Don’t think I’m writing you off yet though CallaLife!
