Birchbox (referral link) is a monthly subscription box that sends you five personalized beauty items from hair, skincare, make up and Birchbox exclusives. The cost is $10 a month plus $4.95 shipping to Canada. You can fill out a style profile that will help them decide which variety of products they will send to you. You can buy full sized products through the Birchbox store and you can earn points towards purchases as well. After the 10th of each month you are able to go onto your account and view your box should you desire.
This was the first Birchbox being shipped to Canada. This was a pretty huge deal because Birchbox is known as being the original subscription box. I love the pink cover on the box and the pictures within the writing is really neat.
The box is just a plain brown cardboard box but it feels like great quality. It would be great for storing stuff in or to package gift/parcels in. Inside were some information cards and everything was nicely packaged. December’s theme was “Decked Out”. They designed this box to help you start the holiday celebrations early.
Amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo-This is a weightless spray that helps refresh the hair by absorbing excess oil and dirt. I have one kind of dry shampoo from a past box but never noticed it doing much of a difference. I’ve heard amazing things about this brand and that the smell is great. It does have a fresher scent then I find a lot of hair products do. I wash my hair a lot because of going to the gym as much as I do. I tend to get lazy on the days I don’t workout though and something like this will come in handy for a quick fix when I don’t just want to throw a toque on.
Vasanti Cosmetics BrightenUp! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator–This Face Rejuvenator mimics the results of microdermabrasion for glowing, smooth skin. The papaya enzymes dissolve the bonds that hold dead skin cells together and even out your skin tone, and the crystals buff away tired skin and fade fine lines and acne scars. Unlike professional microdermabrasion there is no chance of redness or sensitivity from this product because of the aloe vera, coconut and vitamins B and E. I haven’t been using this long enough to really see the results yet but it is a nice product. I haven’t had any irritation from it and you only need a pea size amount so this sample will last awhile.
Harvey Price Hello Body Cream–This cream is infused with Hello perfume and lemon and mandarin extracts to add a refreshing citrus scent. It contains a blend of olive, coconut, and sweet almond oils and shea butter that helps soften and smooth dry skin. The scent of this lotion is really nice. When I first put it on my hand I wasn’t the biggest fan of it, it had a big more of the perfume scent to it. After rubbing it in the smell got way better, I definitely picked up more of the citrus scent. The lotion made my hands feel really soft and the lotion wasn’t greasy at all.
theBalm Stainiac–This is a best selling stain that gives cheeks and lips a sheer, rosy tint. I received this in “Beauty Queen” which is a megenta-toned pink. I never wear blush and don’t see the point of tint on the cheeks. I would use this for my lips, if anything, but if feels a bit sticky and I would sooner use a lipstick. I may end up using this to mix with another color to give it a bit more shine.
Cynitha Rowley Beauty Eyeliner–A luxe, creamly liner from the NYC-based designer for smudge-proof all day wear. This eyeliner goes on extremely easy and the color just glides. It also stays really well and is a really dark pigmented color. The tip is thick so it would be easy to do a smoky eye look with it.
This just shows the color of the eyeliner and cheek & lip tint.
With Birchbox being the original subscription box I was very curious how if it would measure up to all the hype. There were a lot of excited Canadians when it was announced they would start shipping here. While we were waiting for the boxes to ship they sent out an email that there was a delay from when they said the boxes were supposed to ship. Because of this they gave us all 100 BB points, which is worth $10 in their store. That gives a really great first impression of their customer service and that is great to see. This subscription is fairly comparable to ipsy with their format and types of products. I can already tell I’m going to like this way better. I like the variety of products that I received and I feel that my style profile was actually taken into consideration. I can’t wait for next months box!
