Birchbox (referral link) is a monthly subscription box that sends you five personalized beauty items from hair, skincare, make up and Birchbox exclusives. The cost is $10 a month plus $4.95 shipping to Canada. You can fill out a style profile that will help them decide which variety of products they will send to you. You can buy full sized products through the Birchbox store and you can earn points towards purchases as well. After the 10th of each month you are able to go onto your account and view your box should you desire.
Last month’s box was just a brown color with a pink sleeve keeping it closed. It was fun to see a different box this month. I’m curious if this will be the regular look of the box, or if they will change it up each month.
While the lid is pink, the rest of the box is white with a confetti patter on it. This is really cute I think I’ll hold on to my boxes and use them for packaging gifts, or storing things.
Love the first look. Things got a pink of a pink tinge from the paper it was wrapped in, but I like how everything is orderly and that they put some items into a smaller box.
What’s in the box?
Folle De Joie eau de parfum–Folle De Joie translates into “crazy with joy”. This perfume has a whole mix of scents going on. Calming citrus, light woodsy floral with slight cognac, jasmine and Damascenia rose, and spicy woods and rich leather. This perfume does not make me “folle de joie” one bit. I’m really not a fan of the scent. Even just from the description you can tell that it has a lot going on. I spritzed a bit on my wrists and it seemed rather over powering, and very perfumey. This definitely won’t be getting used by me!
ModelCo Party Proof Lipstick–This is a hydrating, semi-matte lip color, with a vitamin-rich formula. It heals dryness while coating the lips in a long-lasting color. The shade I got is Dusk Till Down, which is a deep nude with beige undertones. It’s a bit more brown than I would typically choose for myself, but it’s actually really great with my skin tone. I don’t believe I have anything like this already.
Tocca Crema da Mano Hand Cream–This intensely hydrating cream has a blend of shea butter, avocado oil and aloe. This one is called “Cleopatra” which is a blend of grapefruit and cucumber. I don’t know how to describe the scent of this, but it wasn’t what I was expecting. I didn’t really pick up much of a grapefruit scent from it, but it was still a light, fruity scent. This absorbed easily and didn’t leave my hands feeling greasy at all. I’m seriously verging on lotion overload, but I’ve been using it a lot more lately and noticing a difference. Since I know that I will eventually use this up, I’m fine with having received another.
Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre (24 Hour Miracle Cream)–Due to the amount of shea butter and aloe vera this moisturizer gives the skin a silky finish. It also doubles as make up remover, post-shave soother and all over body lotion. This is another one that absorbs nicely, and didn’t seem to have any scent. I feel like since I have SO many lotions (as stated above) and moisturizers for my face, I will likely take them up on the post-shave soother. It still might last a really long time though since it’s winter, and too chilly to care about shaving my legs (you cold weather people know what I’m talking about).
Beauty Protector Protect & Treat Hair Mask–This product rejuvenates and powerfully protects our strands. The formula contains antioxidants to neutralize damaging free radicals, Argan oil, honey, amber, and crushed pearls. It revives strands and preserves the youthful texture and shine. The nice thing is that this also works with all hair types. This works the same as other hair masks, just add after shampoo and rinse off after an allotted time. I started to have a bit of a stock pile of hair treatments because of not having the time to let them sit in my hair as long as needed. I decided to just give myself a little more time in the shower so that I could have that time of relaxing, and receive the benefits of using this type of product. The one I’m currently using has two more uses in it, so these will replace that. I like that they included two in order to make up for the smaller sample size.
I had looked at the contents of my box before receiving it, and so I knew what to expect. I’ll be honest, I was pretty bummed at my first look. As it turns out, it’s only the perfume that I’m disappointed with now! While the other products are nothing special, they are all items that I will use. I love that there are more beauty products than make up because it makes it more practical for me, just like the BB5 boxes. I’m still thrilled about Birchbox being in Canada and I’m sure I will end up being a long time subscriber. The cost doesn’t hurt either!
