Brown box. Instant sadness. Birchbox partnered with Rifle Paper Co this month and made a really beautiful box, pink with flowers on it, I was so sad to open up the packaging and see that I had received a plain brown box. I reached out to the company via Facebook message and asked if there was any way that I could still get the nice box from this month. They responded within 24 hours saying that I had been sent that by mistake and that they would send me a box since they had some extras! I’m not sure how mind ended up in a plain box (I know someone else who received a plain one this month, and others previous months) but I’m really happy with the customer service that I received regarding this. The boxes are a huge highlight for me as I’m sure you’ve been learning! I just need to figure out yet what to do with them!
The box this didn’t seem to have a specific theme but I’m going to say that it was Spring. It goes right along with the exclusive print on the box designed by Rifle Paper Co. They also say on the included card: “There’s a reason they call it Spring. The fresh blooms and fresh air have put a bounce in our step, and we’re thrilled to update our look (hello, new colors and trends).
Beaver Professional Hydro Nutritive Moisturizing Shampoo–This shampoo is a mild cleanser that uses moisturizing avocado oil and aloe vera extracts to repair and rebuild your hair. It will leave you with smooth, soft, and shiny hair.
Beaver Professional Hydro Nutritive Repairing Conditioner–This deeply nourishes and strengthens dry, damaged or frizzy hair.
I like that they sent the pair, and that they aren’t just foil samples. They also seem a tad bigger than usual sample sized shampoo and conditioners. I can’t quite pinpoint the smell, but it has the scent that I would expect from something named Beaver. Not saying it smells like a beaver, but it smells natural, kind of earthy. I used these once and was happyish. They made my hair feel soft, but I didn’t notice it do anything different than my shampoo I regularly use.
Jelly Pong Pong Glow Getter Highlighter–This is a weightless gel highlighter that makes getting radiant skin easy. It’s oil free and is 80% water, so it won’t clog pores. There are pearlescent pigments give the skin a slight luminous shimmer. The gel is also hypoallergenic and free of mineral oil, phthalates, triclosan and sulfates. So, sounds like this is a product that’s pretty healthy for the skin, even though I don’t even know what most of those are. When I first received this I thought it was a nail polish, and was really annoyed that they would send me one so small, and in such a blah color. Now that I’ve actually looked into it, my annoyance is gone. You just need to dab a pearl sized amount onto your cheekbones and brow bones so it seems like this should last a decent amount of time. Plus the brand name is just fun to say.
Not Soap, Radio “Bathing With Sharks” Body Wash–Okay, so first, how fun is this packaging? There are a whole variety of these products available on the website, and I just love all the fun names. This particular one helps energize you with royal jelly extract. I couldn’t pinpoint the scent, but then read on the card that they describe it as an energizing, beachy scent. That’s definitely it, The scent reminds me a lot of being on the beach in Hawaii (oh how nice it would be to be back there!). You can either use this as a regular body wash, or add a small amount to your bath and have a nice relaxing soak. I have a lot of body wash but I was curious how this would be in the tub. Since I’m currently on a week of holidays from work, I decided to have a nice soak in the tub yesterday and see how this was. The scent wasn’t very obvious but it did make a decent amount of bubbles, using just a small amount. I wouldn’t say it made me any more energized, but that could be because our plug in our tub apparently doesn’t seal, and it was a rather short soak.
Whish Shave Crave Shaving Cream (Pomegranate)–This shaving cream is made in the US with eco-friendly ingredients and will give you a close shave without drying out your legs. Rather than foaming up like most creams do, this cream is full of natural and organic botanicals that just soften your skin. It has a base of omega-rich squalene, organic shea butter, jojoba oil, and coconut oil so you shouldn’t see any redness or irritation. Organic green tea extracts also infuse your skin with antioxidants. This was another product that came at a good time. I’m not ashamed to admit that I have let my legs go. Living in Saskatchewan, you reach a point in winter that you just don’t care, no one sees them anyway (other than your SO). I’ve been thinking lately that I really need to take care of the mess on my legs, so needing to test this out finally gave me that push I needed. I’m proud to report that my legs are smooth and hairless now. The scent was amazing, but it was hard to know just how much to use. I’m used to creams foaming so I know when I have enough coverage. I didn’t experience any redness, and I’d say that my legs felt really soft and smooth after using, no irritation.
I already stated this at the beginning, but the customer service that I received in regards to the plain box is enough to make me happy with this month. This is probably one of my favorite boxes yet. I like that it was more heavy on the beauty aspect, rather than just the make-up. Between the shampoo, conditioner, shave cream and body wash/bubble bath, I had a whole little spa day for myself (okay, spa 10 minutes?). I really enjoyed trying out all the products this month, and it made for a break from all the cleaning I was doing. With all that said, obviously I didn’t gain any excitement from the highlighter, but I also don’t have complaints about it. Now if it had actually been a nail polish, then you would be hearing complaints.
