Beauty Box 5 is a monthly beauty subscription box that sends you a combination of makeup, beauty accessories, hair, skincare, fragrance, body, and nail products. Some products are deluxe sized samples and some are full size. The cost is $12 a month, plus $3 shipping to Canada.
I was surprised to receive this box because it felt like I had just gotten one! That was because December’s was so late though, I’m happy to have received January’s box within the correct month.
January’s theme is “Hello”.
“The beginning of the year can mean new challenges, but rather than shying away from confrontation, greet them wholeheartedly with a smile and a twinkle in (and lining) your perfectly-accented eyes! You never know what new opportunities are on the horizon, so put your well-manicured self forwards and say hi to fresh possibilities!
The spoiler released by BB5 was that every box would contain a mascara and so their first line made perfect sense. I was curious to see how the rest of the box would compare to feeling fresh and ready to face the new year, and all that goes with it.
What’s in the box?
Coastal Scents Eye Shadow–These are super pigmented eye shadows. There was a huge assortment of colors and I received Mimosa, Deep Cantaloupe, Bright Tangerine, and Volcanic Blast. I really don’t know how I feel about these. Part of me feels lucky to have received the colors that I did, because they are at least wearable. No joke, I thought that some looked like finger paints they were such bright and vibrant colors. I also don’t know how I feel about these colors for myself though. This is a really tiny sample but I can see it lasting awhile, you definitely don’t need much to make a statement!
Garnier Fructis Daily Care Fortifying Shampoo–This shampoo strengthens your hair with grapefruit antioxidants and proteins that leave your hair fortified, soft, and super shiny. This shampoo definitely does have an amazing citrus smell. I’m almost out of my current shampoo and might use this up after. I’m on a serious overrun of travel sized shampoo. I always think they will come in handy when I travel, but then I would actually have to travel for that to work. So rather than waiting, I’m just going to use it.
Softsoap Nutri Serums Vitamin E Body Wash–The softening serum pearls in this soap burst with Vitamin E to hydrate, and Omega 3 and 6 to help your skin retain moisture. Well, when you include a shampoo, it only makes sense to include..soap? I find it rather odd that they didn’t include a conditioner to go with the shampoo. I don’t really notice much of a scent with this soap, and have about the same feelings towards it as the shampoo. I’ll use this, but it’s not anything new or exciting.
Sally Hansen Salon Effects–You just simply peel and apply these strips, and then smooth and shape them over your nails. You can easily remove these with nail polish remover. These are a sparkly beige snake print and I kind of hate them. I’m actually quite a fan of nail wraps, but I like color and prints on my nails, I’m just not a fan of neutral colors. I like that they include a few extra so that if you do screw up then you can have a redo. It would be nice if they included them for more uses. You also don’t have the option of just doing a couple nails because there are 8 wrapped in a package. The packaging states that open, unused strips should be discarded.
Ultraflesh The Gold Standard Mascara–This is an amped up mascara with an expert wand that gets every lash coated for major results. This was the spoiler item and I was quit curious to take a look at this. I read on another blog that this is actually a discontinued product, and her product was completely dried up. Mine definitely seems to be as well and will be going straight into the trash. That’s really disappointing to see since they had made such a big deal about this brand and item.
I’m sure you have a pretty good idea what my final thoughts are going to be. This was basically a waste of a box. The main item is going straight into the trash. That leaves me with nail wraps that I’ll never use, shampoo & soap that’s just like 50 others that I have, and a tiny sample size of overly vibrant eye shadow. This box definitely did not have a good value. My yearly subscription ends in February, and at that point I will be having to re-evaluate my choices with this box. I will either be canceling, or continuing on a monthly basis. If next months box is anything like this one, I’m sure that will be an easy decision.
