Beauty Box 5 is a monthly beauty subscription box that sends you a combination of makeup, beauty accessories, hair, skincare, fragrance, body, and nail products. Some products are deluxe sized samples and some are full size. The cost is $12 a month, plus $3 shipping to Canada.
February was Beauty Box 5’s 3rd birthday! This also marked the end of my 1 year subscription with them. I was pretty hopeful for this box because companies will often do a fairly good job on their birthday. You also may be noticing that we are halfway through March already. The boxes seem to be coming later and later, though that could also be because of the crazy weather that had been happening in the States.
Marsk Mineral Eyeshadow (Vanilla Frosting)–They said they couldn’t ship the actual cake, so why not some frosting? This is an iridescent mineral eyeshadow. I’ve received a few of this brand before and don’t mind them, it’s just going to take quite awhile to use them up! I’m not sure how I feel about the color on it’s own, but I might use this for some highlighting action.
Revlon Colorstay Nail Enamel–This polish has a supersaturated hue with one coat coverage and long-lasting wear. It’s a gray/olive shade and I kind of hate it. It’s not a terrible color in itself, it’s just not my taste at all. There were a variety of colors sent out though I’m not sure what the other colors were. I do wish that they would have gone with some Spring shades since it is March. This just seems so winter to me, I’m so over anything winter related. That said, I did paint one nail and the polish seems to be staying really well. I only did one coat, no top coat, and it has lasted longer than a lot of other brands. I would definitely buy more of this brand, but perhaps in a happier shade.
Absolute New York Lip Balm–This lip balm moisturizes, and gives a slight tint. I received this in bubblegum and couldn’t be more happy. Firstly, because bubblegum is a great flavor and scent. Secondly, I received this brand in the past, but in grape. I’m not too sure where it ended up, but I did really enjoy it the times that I used it!
Avon Big Color Eye Pencil–They recommend layering this pencil over a powder or primer to help it last longer. I’m really not feeling this color at all. It’s also odd to me that they sent out an Avon product. Plus I don’t like the pencils. So just no.
GlamGlow Youthmud Tinglexfoliate Treatment–This is an anti-aging mask. All you have to do is apply it for 10 minutes, it will do some tingling, and then you can rinse it off in circular motions as it’s also an exfoliant. They aren’t kidding when they said mud, it looked and felt exactly like mud. After it dried it was more like cement, it was a light gray and hard. I would also say it did a bit more than tingle. It had a bit of a burning your face off sensation at the start, though that feeling went away as it dried. It easily came off and I could feel that it was exfoliating. My face looked fresh after, and felt really smooth.
Gift Card–Since it was a birthday month, they also included a $20 gift card from yourMinerals. I looked at the website and all the products seem to range in the $21-$25 range. Unfortunately, shipping to Canada is an additional $15. That just doesn’t make this gift card worth it to me. If this was a product that I was in love with it might be a different story, but for now I am well stocked up. I also receive so many through all these boxes that I would never pay that much for any one item.
I expected a lot more from a birthday box. I do like that four of the items were full size, but I think they should have done all products full sized. The only item that I’m really happy about is the lip balm, but even that I could do without. It will take a long time to go through the eyeshadow considering how many I have, and I don’t care for the color of the eye pencil or nail polish. My favorite thing about the box was the pink and blue crinkle paper used for the packaging. What a fun color combination. Oh, and don’t forget the delicious looking donuts on the information card!
I face the big question of whether or not to re subscribe on a monthly basis. While some boxes have been a complete fail, I have consistently used a lot of the products, particularly the beauty items that they include. For the time being I have decided to continue subscribing. It’s nothing special, but I do really like the usefulness for me. I now have the freedom to cancel at any time, should I so desire.
