The past two years I have made up a yearly bucket list. Not to be mistaken with resolutions, this list has consisted of goals that I want to accomplish throughout the year, or things that I want to do. 2016 is very quickly coming to a close, so it is time to do some reflecting and see how I did. If you want to reference the original list, and see my thoughts on these goals, please check it out here!
Save some money
I first had this on my list in 2015, but it was specifically to save $2000. That did not happen. In fact, I had nothing in savings by year end. I changed the goal for 2016 to just have SOMETHING in savings. It didn’t matter how much, as long as it was something. I’m very happy to report that I did accomplish this! There is enough in there that I won’t have to scramble if an unexpected expense comes up. There could have been a lot more in there if I had cut down more on shopping, but something is better than nothing.
Get to my goal weight
This is the second year that I had this on my list, and I didn’t come any closer to accomplishing it. I lost weight, I gained weight, it’s a vicious cycle.
Make money from my writing
It wasn’t until 2015 that I realized just how much I loved writing. I had a few articles published on Yogi Approved, but those were not paid gigs. I made the decision that in 2016 I would get paid to write. I’m very happy to report that I got paid to write 3 articles for the website Nuzest. I would have liked to have gotten more writing gigs or, even better, to have monetized my blog, but I’m still proud of myself for being able to accomplish this item!
Travel out of country
I actually did this twice! The first time was a trip to Las Vegas & Los Angeles with an online clothing company that I work for. It was a buyers trip and my time in Las Vegas was spent attending Magic and in LA I got to check out the San Pedro Fashion Market. We even had some free time and I got to explore Vegas and go to Disneyland! This trip was an amazing experience and I had a ton of fun!
My second trip was a weekend trip to New Jersey. The same company held a giant one day sale at a hotel and I flew out to work it. It was a busy and exhausting trip, but it was great to have met some of the ladies that I talk to on a regular basis through Facebook!
Visit 5 new places in Saskatchewan
I would say that I accomplished this in a roundabout way. We went camping at Fort Qu’appelle in summer and did some touring around that area. We stopped in a few towns and went to a few different lakes. Even though it was all just one trip in the same general area, I would say that I did see more than 5 new places.
Hike up a mountain
Unfortunately, this was not accomplished. I did spend some time at the top of a mountain when we were camping at Golden, BC, but we drove up most of it. It was really only one hill that we walked up, though that was a very steep hill!
Ride a horse
This is now two years that this item has been on my list, and I still have yet to accomplish it. Unfortunately, the opportunity just never arose!
Do at least 12 5k’s, one in under 30 minutes.
Yes and no
I ran a lot this year. Like, a lot. Assuming that I Instagramed all of my runs, I earned 11 medals. I also ran a few 5k’s that did not have any medals, so I count that as a win. I had planned on a few others but money got a bit tight, and one of the IRL runs I was going to do was canceled. I did not do any in under 30 minutes, but I’m still happy with the times that I did get.
Go on a train ride
I was hopeful to do this one, but it just didn’t pan out. Much like the plan to ride a horse, the opportunity just didn’t arise.
Try out 5 different types of fitness classes
I’m super happy to have accomplished this! I love working out, and love trying out new types. I didn’t love all of them, but I at least tried. I tried Aerial Hoop, Orangetheory Fitness, Surfset, Spin & Acro Yoga. They all challenged me in different ways and I definitely recommend reading my posts about them!
Get published on more websites
This goes hand in hand with being paid to write as that website was the only other place I was published. I’m still counting this item as accomplished because one more website is more than I had the previous year.
Grow my blog
This is hard to say yes or no to. My views are continually going up on posts and I’m learning which posts seem to do the best. I still have a lot of work to do in this area, but since I didn’t see myself going backwards, I am going to say that this is accomplished.
Grow my social media
I’ll be honest, I just can’t get into Twitter or Pinterest. I did see my stats on Instagram and Facebook go up though and I will continue to work on growing those as much as I can. Given that they have both been changing their algorithms I am pleased to have accomplished this.
Go to a spa
My goal was to treat myself at least once, and I did! I had a Groupon for a mani/pedi at a salon and I was excited for my first ever. The manicure was nothing special and I probably wouldn’t go out of my way to do that again. My nails just chip so fast! The pedicure was very relaxing though and definitely on my list in the future. The massaging chair I sat in during it certainly didn’t hurt!
I also got my first ever spa massage when I was on my LA trip. We stayed a few nights at a pretty swanky hotel and I was treated to this. It was SO relaxing. Afterwards I spent some time in the sauna and steam room. It was a busy trip and so it was really nice to just decompress and relax like that.
Get at least one more tattoo
I am okay that I’m not crossing this off my list. I don’t want to get a tattoo just for the sake of getting a tattoo. I’m still formulating my plan for what I want and until I feel 100% satisfied with it, I won’t get it.
Don’t buy any clothes for at least 2 months out of the year
I actually did this! Well, technically. You know that clothing company I’ve mentioned a couple of times? Well, I get paid in clothes. It’s a great system, and I love it. It’s allows me to save money and not feel the need to shop on a regular basis. I was able to move on from a lot of stores that I bought from the previous year. I definitely didn’t go a single month without getting new clothes, I just worked for them rather than pay for them out of pocket. I also did regular closet clean outs so that I didn’t get overrun by clothes and I’m quite happy with where my closet is at the moment.
There were 16 items on this list. At year end I am able to say yes to 11 of those, which means only 4 went unaccomplished. Those were getting to my goal weight, riding a horse & a train and getting another tattoo. I’m proud of all the ones I did cross off and I feel like the four I missed are the least important.
I’m doing things a bit different this year. Rather than a yearly bucket list I have picked one word to focus on for the year, and set up some monthly goals for myself. Find out more about that here!
